Educators’ Resources

The Indiana Household Hazardous Waste Task Force supports educators by offering grants and free classroom materials. These resources are designed to help students understand the importance of proper hazardous waste disposal and environmental safety.

HHW Education Grant Program:

The Board of Directors actively encourages educators to create new hazardous waste education programs. To support this goal, the Task Force offers grants of up to $250 to its members.

These grants aim to promote creativity, increase environmental awareness, and inspire student-led solutions. Task Force members may download the grant application below. For questions, please contact Heather Siesel.

Ms. Buyright & Professor Hazbin Toolkit

Education plays a key role in every solid waste district’s mission. That’s why the Indiana Household Hazardous Waste Task Force created the Ms. Buyright & Professor Hazbin Toolkit—a free resource for K–8 classrooms.

This toolkit teaches students how to safely identify, use, and dispose of common household products like pesticides, fuels, paints, and cleaning agents.

Lessons for younger students stress the importance of staying away from potentially hazardous chemicals. For older students, the lessons focus on following label instructions, using appropriate protective gear and the proper storage and disposal of leftovers.

The toolkit uses informational handouts, worksheets, puzzles, and activities to teach the lessons and includes teacher resources and answer keys.
